POND
LINERS
The
lining materials available have differing
attributes. Your choice of material should
take certain factors into consideration.
We
offer a choice of six materials:-

Flexibility
- Butyl rubber is the most flexible material
Folding - 0.35mm and 0.5mm
PVC produce the least conspicuous folding.
Butyl has less folds due to its flexibility.
Butyl can also be box-welded to formal shapes
to avoid folding altogether.
Strength - 0.8 PVCand Firestone
Rubber are the strongest materials
Longevity - All liners are
guaranteed against faulty manufacture and
degradation.
In
general we would recommend as follows:
| Temporary
ponds |
0.35mm PVC,
0.5mm PVC, Greenseal or Butyl |
| Shaped
ponds up to 1,000 gals. / 4,500 litres |
All materials

| Shaped
ponds over 1,000 gals. / 4,500 litres |

| Formal
square or round ponds |
Butyl
(box-welded if required), Greenseal,

| Ponds

| Ponds

To
calculate the size of liner you require:
Simply add twice the maximum depth to both
the maximum length and the maximum width plus
extra for an overlap if necessary.
EXAMPLE
- a pond 3m by 2.5m and0.5m in depth
will require a sheet measuring 4m by 3.5m
This
calculation is correct for a pond with sloping
sides where the liner is secured under paving
slabs at the surface and so a small overlap
will suffice. If the sides are vertical and/or
extra overlap is required for a turf surround
etc., you will need to add at least an extra
30cm to both the length and width to give
a comfortable overlap all round.
1.
Ensure that the top of the excavation is level.
2. Remove any sharp stones and either spread
an inch of soft sand over the base, or better
still, line the excavation with underlay.
3. Carefully drape the liner into the hole
providing an even overlap on all sides and
place weights
around the edge.
4. Run a hose into the pool and begin to fill.
5. Periodically lift the weights during the
filling process to ease the liner snugly into
place. Any folds or creases that form should
be smoothed out for best effect.
6. Finish around the pond edge with turves,
paving, rockery stone etc. Paving slabs should
overlap the edge of the pond by about 5 centimetres
When complete, no part of the liner should
show.
CALCULATING
VOLUME
is always important to know the volume of
your pond, the following formulae will help
you work this out :
For
gallonage: take measurements in feet
and multiply:-
length x breadth x average depth x 6.23
For
litres: take measurements in metres
and multiply:-
length x breadth x average depth x 1000
If
the pond is an irregular shape, the length
and breadth measurements should be reduced
to an average figure to take account of the
area lost in the corners etc.

If
the size of liner you are looking for is not
available in the table above, we can cut any
length you require from the rolls listed below
to the nearest 50cm (20")
Butyl,
Greenseal and PVC Liners are available
in the following roll widths:
2 metre - 6'6"
3 metre - 9'10"
4 metre - 13'1"
5 metre - 16'5"
6 metre - 19'8"
|
Firestone
Liners are available
in the following roll widths:
2.44 metre - 8'
3.66 metre - 12'
4.27 metre - 14'
4.88 metre - 16'
5.49 metre - 18'

Most
liners can be made in other sizes by special
order
HEAVY
DUTY UNDERLAY
We
recommend the use of underlay for the protection
of all liners
Pre-packed Underlay Sizes
Pack A - 3m x 2m - 9'10" x 6'6"
Pack B - 4m x 2m - 13'1" x 6'6"
Pack C - 5m x 2m - 16'5" x 6'6"
Pack D - 6m x 2m - 19'8" x 6'6"
Underlay cut from the roll - Roll width 2m
/ 6'6"
We advise you to allow a 10cm overlap when
laying strips of underlay |
